The Dead Air Saints About Header

"What makes The Dead Air Saints unique is their ability to move effortlessly between genres, letting each song dictate its own sound and identity. Noir-glam, rock, power pop, Americana, or something entirely unexpected, the common thread running through every release is exceptional songwriting".

"Noir-glam, elegant, mysterious, and unforgettable."

The Dead Air Saints
WHO WE ARE

The Dead Air Saints are a cinematic rock-and-roll band whose songs travel freely between worlds—noir glamour, rock, hard rock, Southern Gothic Americana, power-pop rebellion, and deep romance.

Based in Pittsburgh, The Dead Air Saints are a cinematic storytelling band whose sound changes to serve the song. Blending rock, country, Americana, alternative, glam and power pop influences, each release explores a different world while remaining rooted in honest storytelling and emotional authenticity.

We operate as a modern version of the elite session-player ecosystem that once powered the recording industry. Inspired by groups like The Wrecking Crew, we bring together top-tier players to create consistent, high-quality recordings across a wide range of styles.

WHAT WE DO

We tell stories. We don't chase genres. Every Dead Air Saints release is its own world, its own cast of characters, and its own soundtrack. Every release is a self-contained universe with its own characters, conflicts, atmosphere, and emotional gravity. The music changes because the stories change.

Driven by immersive imagery, mysterious storytelling, and emotionally resonant music, The Dead Air Saints create a modern mythology where beauty survives in darkness and rock-and-roll becomes both confession and cinema.

Ethereal yet powerful. Intimate yet expansive. The band's aesthetic moves beyond the familiar clichés of hard rock, embracing timeless glamour, noir emotion, and richly layered world-building. Each song opens a different door, but every journey is unmistakably Dead Air Saints.

C. Scott Gilbert — The Architect

Every great structure begins with a blueprint.

As the founder, producer, bassist, keyboardist, songwriter, recording engineer, mixing engineer, and creative director behind The Dead Air Saints, C. Scott Gilbert serves as the band's architect — designing the framework that transforms ideas into songs, and songs into worlds.

Scotto — The Architect

Working from SodaPop House Studios outside Pittsburgh, Gilbert oversees every stage of the creative process, from the earliest lyric fragments to the final master delivered to streaming services. His fingerprints can be found on every detail: the arrangements, the sonic textures, the visual identity, the marketing strategy, and the long-term vision that drives the project forward.

A lifelong student of both music and technology, Gilbert believes that every song deserves its own universe. Rather than confining The Dead Air Saints to a single genre, he approaches each release as a unique experience — allowing the music itself to dictate the destination.

Through his independent label, SodaPop Records, Gilbert champions a mission larger than any single band: helping musicians build sustainable careers in an industry that has changed dramatically over the past generation.

As The Architect, Gilbert provides the vision, structure, and foundation upon which The Dead Air Saints are built.

CORE PLAYER

Joni V — The Voice

Some singers perform songs. Joni V inhabits them.

As the lead vocalist of The Dead Air Saints, Joni brings the emotional center to the band’s sound — melody, presence, vulnerability, power, and lived-in truth. She is The Voice: the human signal cutting through the noise.

Joni V — The Voice

Joni has been fronting bands since the turn of the century, carrying with her the instinct, confidence, and stagecraft that only comes from years of connecting with real audiences. Her voice is equal parts grit and grace, capable of moving from intimate confession to full-throttle rock authority without losing the emotional thread of the song.

In The Dead Air Saints, Joni serves as more than a singer. She is the narrator, the muse, and the heartbeat of the band’s many worlds. Whether the song leans into cinematic rock, power pop, country-rock storytelling, or something darker and more atmospheric, she brings the character to life.

Her performances give The Dead Air Saints their emotional gravitythe ache, the fire, the danger, and the redemption. When Joni sings, the song stops being an idea and becomes a confession.

As The Voice, Joni V gives The Dead Air Saints their soul.

CORE PLAYER

John Owen — The Power

Every band needs a spark. Every great band needs power.

As lead guitarist for The Dead Air Saints, John Owen provides the force, intensity, and unmistakable energy that drives the band's sound forward. Whether delivering soaring melodic lines, crushing riffs, or tasteful textures, John is The Power behind the signal.

John Owen — The Power

John's musical journey began in the rock clubs of New Jersey, performing in the same scene that helped launch legendary artists such as Bruce Springsteen and Jon Bon Jovi. Surrounded by working musicians and packed club stages, he developed the hard-earned musicianship and stage presence that have become hallmarks of his playing.

His path eventually led to Pittsburgh, where he collaborated with C. Scott Gilbert in the regional rock band 121MercyStreet. The partnership forged during those years would later become a cornerstone of The Dead Air Saints, bringing together two musicians with a shared commitment to great songs, powerful performances, and relentless creativity.

Today, Owen calls southern California home, where he continues to write, record, and lead worship while contributing his signature guitar work to The Dead Air Saints. Drawing from decades of experience across rock, contemporary worship, and modern production, he brings both musical maturity and emotional depth to every performance.

John's playing is never about showing off. It's about serving the song, creating memorable moments, and delivering the kind of emotional impact that lingers long after the final note fades away.

As The Power, John Owen supplies the energy, conviction and fire that help define The Dead Air Saints.

CORE PLAYER

David Floyd McKee — The Drive

Every song has a heartbeat. David McKee is ours.

As drummer for The Dead Air Saints, David McKee provides the rhythm, momentum, and energy that keep the band moving forward. Whether laying down a rock-solid groove in the studio or igniting a live audience, David is The Drivethe engine behind the music.

David Floyd McKee — The Drive

David discovered his passion for drums literally shortly after he learned to walk — and then ultimately picked up the drums officially as a young teenager. He then quickly developed a reputation for both technical precision and musical instinct. His dedication to the craft eventually led him onto professional stages across the United States and Canada as a touring drummer for several years with Young American Showcase (touring as “Free Fare” and Freedom Jam") where he honed the performance skills and versatility that continue to define his playing today.

Originally from the western side of Pennsylvania, David now resides in the center of the state in State College. McKee remains one of the region's most respected drummers, regularly playing live with several prominent bands in the area, while also recording for numerous artists throughout Pennsylvania and elsewhere. Equally comfortable behind the glass of a recording studio or under the lights of a packed venue, he brings a rare combination of consistency, creativity, passion and musical maturity.

In the studio, David's attention to detail and deep understanding of song dynamics make him an exceptional recording drummer. His performances provide the foundation upon which The Dead Air Saints build their sound, delivering grooves that feel effortless while serving the emotional core of each song. McKee’s deep catalog featuring dozens of studio sessions can be heard on all the major streaming platforms, spanning many genres.

On stage, however, David becomes something else entirely. His infectious energy, unmistakable smile, and connection with audiences have made him a crowd favorite wherever he performs. Fans may come for the songs, but they rarely leave without remembering the drummer who seemed to be having as much fun as they were. He goes out of his way to take his audiences along for the ride at each and every performance.

As The Drive, David McKee supplies the pulse, momentum, and spirit that keep The Dead Air Saints moving forward.

THE PLAYERS

Real Musicians. Real Studios. Real Records.

The Dead Air Saints were never intended to be a traditional four-piece band. Instead, the project embraces a recording philosophy inspired by the great session-player ecosystems that helped define generations of popular music. Much like The Wrecking Crew, The Funk Brothers, or the elite Nashville and Los Angeles studio musicians who powered countless classic recordings, The Dead Air Saints assemble the right players for the right songs.

Every Dead Air Saints release begins with the story. Once the world, mood, and musical direction of a song are established, the team brings together the musicians best suited to bring that vision to life. Sometimes that means the core Dead Air Saints lineup. Sometimes it means adding exceptional session players with specialized skills, instruments, or creative perspectives. The goal is always the same: serve the song and deliver the strongest possible recording.

This approach allows The Dead Air Saints to move freely between musical styles while maintaining a consistent standard of musicianship, production quality, and storytelling. Listeners may occasionally hear different players from one release to the next, but every performance is selected with intention and recorded to support the unique world each song inhabits.

One thing never changes: every note you hear is performed by real musicians. The Dead Air Saints do not use artificial intelligence to write, perform, or generate their music. No AI-generated vocals. No AI-generated instruments. No AI-generated songs.

Every vocal, guitar, bass, keyboard, drum performance, and orchestration is created by human artists and captured in professional recording environments. We proudly work with talented session musicians when a song calls for a specific sound, instrument, or expertise—but the music itself remains entirely human.

In an era increasingly defined by automation, The Dead Air Saints remain committed to the craft of musicians making music together: real players, real performances, real emotion, and real records.
